The electorate of West Swan was created at the time of the 2008 State election. It is located in the East Metropolitan Region.

In October 2011, a review of electoral boundaries was completed by the Electoral Commission. The West Swan electorate, at the time of the next election in March 2013, will incorporate the suburb of Ellenbrook, while Landsdale and the north-western portion of Ballajura will no longer be part of the electorate.

The electorate of West Swan includes the suburbs of Ballajura, Malaga, Bennett Springs, Caversham, West Swan, Dayton, Brabham, Henley Brook, Ellenbrook, Lexia and Whiteman.
