West Swan MLA Rita Saffioti has called on the State Government to get serious and commit some crucial funding to key infrastructure projects in the West Swan electorate as part of the 2012-13 State Budget, to be handed down in May.
Ms Saffioti’s repeated calls follow the release of the RAC 2012-13 State Budget submission. “This region requires some serious upgrades to the existing transport and road infrastructure,” “It is no secret what is needed in the area and I welcome the RAC’s support in lobbying for this crucial funding.” According to the RAC submission, three of the six key projects in the north metro region that require a State Government funding commitment, fall within Ms Saffioti’s West Swan electorate. These include: - An overpass at Reid Highway and Malaga Drive; - Dual carriageway for Reid Highway, between Beechboro Road and West Swan Road; and - A funding commitment towards the Swan Valley Bypass (Perth Darwin Highway Stage 1). Ms Saffioti said these projects should be a high priority of the State Government, yet they are dragging their feet. “The Barnett Government’s piecemeal approach is not good for the region and is delaying these much needed projects,” she said. “The Barnett Government must use this opportunity to develop a strategic transport plan for the region.” Ms Saffioti also highlighted the need for State Government funding to upgrade Gnangara Road. |
